Therapist

Ricardo Melendrez, AMFT

My path to becoming an unarmed mobile crisis responder for the City of Los Angeles was shaped by nearly three decades of walking with people through moments of learning, struggle, and healing. For 17 years, I taught in both public and private schools, helping young minds grow. I then spent six years as a wraparound and FSP therapist in Service Area 6 (South Los Angeles), standing beside children, teens, and families as they navigated their deepest wounds and brightest hopes. Later, I brought the same steady presence to adults as an FSP therapist in Service Area 7 (Southeast Los Angeles), accompanying them through the labyrinth of mental health challenges and the difficult but hopeful work of recovery.

I’m a bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Clinical Social Worker and  first-generation Latina, passionate about helping people heal, grow, and feel empowered in their mental health journey.

I’ve worked with children, teens, and adults facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, and relationship issues. I have supported individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those impacted by school-related stress, foster care, behavioral concerns, self-harm or suicidal thoughts, and housing instability.

My experience varies from school setting, community mental health, and private practice. I am trained in the following evidence-based practices: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Seeking Safety, and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I believe therapy should be a collaborative process, together, we’ll create a plan that fits your unique needs, goals, and strengths.
